Narsamma's Biryani

This was back in the 1930s, when Grandpa was posted in the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries, as a Leather Tanning expert.

Grandpa was a connoisseur of food and had a very discerning palatte. The family had a cook called Narsamma, who was much sought after and previously been cooking for Sarojini Naidu's household.

Much of the food served out of our family kitchen, the Cranganore House are secret recipes passed on to Grandma from Narsamma.

One of Narsamma's popular dishes was the Hyderabadi Kachchi Biryani made in copper handi. The handi was picked up by Grandma in Jalandhar while they were living there. We continue to use the same handi to make our Biryani. It can hold upto 5kgs of Biryani and serves about 10 people.
